Monk
Venerable Dositheus Koltsenkov, known to the world with the name Dimitry, was born in 1811 in the village of Snagost, in the Kursk province. In 1840, he joined the brotherhood of the Glinsk Hermitage (Glinskaya Monastery). In 1849, he received the monastic tonsure and was given the name Dositheus. Two years later, in 1851, he was ordained a hierodeacon. However, he initially refused to accept the office, considering himself uneducated and unworthy of such an honor.
Throughout his monastic life, he endured severe spiritual trials, patiently struggling against temptations and demonic assaults. With the support and encouragement of his fellow brethren, he eventually attained inner peace. He practiced rigorous asceticism, limiting both his communication with the world and his personal comforts, while maintaining simplicity in his diet and daily life. Through many hardships, he was granted the spiritual gifts of discernment and healing. On the fortieth day after his repose, he appeared in a dream to the monastery's cook, confirming that he had received the Lord's mercy and forgiveness through the intercessions of the Most Holy Theotokos.
