Martyr
Martyr Dorotheus was born on June 22, 1869, in the village of Polukhtino, Ryazan province. He came from a peasant family of middle class, practiced the shoemaking craft, and was a member of the church council. In 1932, his property was confiscated for non-payment of the quota. In the martyr's family were his wife Vasilisa, son Vasily, and daughter-in-law Maria, who were forced to work in the collective farm.
The chairman of the village council characterized Dorotheus as 'hostile to the Soviet power.' Arrested on September 27, 1937, he denied all charges. On December 6, 1937, by the decree of the 'troika' of the NKVD, he was sentenced to execution.
