Bishop
Saint Donatus was Bishop of Euroea in Epirus during the reign of Emperor Theodosius the Great. Renowned for his holiness, he worked many miracles, healing the sick and casting out demons. When a spring was found to be poisoned, Saint Donatus defeated the demon that guarded it and purified the water with his blessing. In another case, through his prayer, a spring of water gushed forth in a dry place, and a long drought ended with abundant rain.
When the emperor’s daughter fell ill, Theodosius asked the saint to visit Constantinople. Saint Donatus healed her, driving out the demon that tormented her. Out of gratitude, the emperor offered him rich gifts. However, the saint refused them, asking only for land on which to build a church. Theodosius granted his request.
The saint also raised a dead man to life. Also, during a litany he performed in Constantinople, God sent down a heavy rain—yet his garments remained perfectly dry, a sign of divine grace.
Returning to his episcopate, Saint Donatus built another church. Having reached a very old age, he peacefully departed to the Lord, entering His heavenly Kingdom and glorifying His holy name.
