Father Dionysius Efimovich Shchegolev was born in 1870 in the village of Raskazn, Saratov region. He served in the village of Chiganak. In 1931, he was 'dekulakized' and exiled to Kazakhstan, where he lived in a special settlement. Father Dionysius's father was arrested in August 1932 for conducting religious rites and anti-Soviet agitation. He was sentenced to 3 years of exile in Siberia. Upon his return, he was arrested again on October 26, 1937, and sentenced to execution on November 14, 1937. The sentence was carried out on November 23, 1937, in Balashov. The burial place of the holy martyr Dionysius is unknown.
