Saint Dionysius, the hermit of the Caves of Pechersk, known as Shchepa, held the rank of presbyter. In 1463, during the Paschal matins, he was incensing the relics of the holy saints in the Antoniev Caves. When he exclaimed: “Holy fathers and brothers! Christ is risen!”, a response was heard from the holy relics: “Indeed, He is risen!” From that day, he withdrew into solitude and after many labors departed to the Lord. The miracle with Saint Dionysius is attested in the 8th song of the common canon to the saints of Kyiv-Pechersk. The saint is buried in the Far Caves.
