Martyrs Demetrius, his wife Euanthia, and their son Demetrian, at Skepsis on the Hellespont
Martyrs
Saint martyr Dimitri was a prince and ruler of the city of Skepsis in the Hellespont. The holy Cornelius the Centurion, the first pagan converted to Christ by the Apostle Peter, came to his city. Saint Cornelius, having sown Christianity, was captured by the pagans and brought to trial before the ruler Dimitri. The holy martyr unsuccessfully urged him to renounce Christ and, subjected to tortures, bravely endured the sufferings. Brought into the idol's temple, he through prayer shattered the shrine and the idols. Convinced of the truth of Christianity, the ruler Dimitri himself believed in Christ and accepted Holy Baptism with his entire family. For this, the pagans threw the newly converted family into prison and starved them.
