Demetrius of Scepsis
Martyr
Saint Demetrius was a prince and ruler of the city of Skepsis in the Hellespont. The holy Cornelius the Centurion, the first pagan converted to Christ by the Apostle Peter, came to his city. For preaching Christianity, Saint Cornelius was captured by pagans and brought to trial before the ruler Demetrius, who tortured him to renounce Christ. Saint Cornelius bravely endured the tortures, calling the ruler to the true faith. In the idol temple, he crushed the idols with prayer, which led to the conversion of Demetrius and his family to Christ. For this, the pagans threw them into prison and starved them to death.
