Martyrs David and Constantine, Princes of Georgia
Martyrs
Saint Martyrs David and Constantine, princes of Aragvi, were raised in the Orthodox faith from childhood and bravely defended Georgia from Muslim invaders. Captured, they refused to accept Islam, for which they were subjected to torture and drowned in the Rioni River in the year 740. Their bodies were sanctified and carried away by Christians, buried in the cave of Mount Tskhaltbari in the city of Kutaisi.
In the 12th century, during the hunt of King Bagrat the Great, the incorrupt relics of the holy brothers were found in a cave, illuminated by light. The king built a church in their honor, the Church of the Martyrs, and established the Motsameta Monastery, where the relics became renowned for miracles.
