St Daniel Kushner
Martyr
The martyr Daniel Kushnir suffered during the persecutions by the Uniates. In 1776, the faithful of the village of Mliev, wishing to return to Orthodoxy, asked the priest to renounce the union, but after receiving a refusal, they hid the priestly vestments and books. The priest accused Kushnir of sacrilege, and he was arrested. After several months, Daniel had both hands burned, and then he was beheaded. The honorable head of the martyr was buried in the Ascension Cathedral of Pereyaslav. In 1994, Daniel was canonized among the local saints of the Cherkasy Diocese. On November 30, 2017, the Council of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church made the decision to glorify the martyr universally.
