Venerable Damian of Esphigmenou of Mt. Athos
Venerable
Saint Damian was silent near the Esphigmenou Monastery on Mount Samaria and had a special friendship with Saint Cosmas of Zographou. He was a true novice and strictly followed the command of his elder not to sleep outside his cell. One day, while returning to his cell in the evening and losing his way due to rain and darkness, he cried out to the Lord for salvation and miraculously found himself before his cell. After the saint's repose, a fragrance emanated from his grave, which was felt even in the Esphigmenou Monastery at a considerable distance, testifying to his God-pleasing life and purity. Through his prayers, may we be worthy to inherit eternal glory.
