Venerable Damian of Esphigmenou of Mt. Athos
Venerable
Saint Damian was a hesychast monk of Mount Athos. He lived on Mount Samareia, near the Esphigmenou Monastery, and shared a close friendship with Saint Cosmas of the Zographou Monastery. He was a faithful disciple, who always followed his elder's instructions with unwavering obedience.
One evening, while returning to his cell, he lost his way due to a heavy rainstorm. Calling upon the Lord for help, he was miraculously transported to the very door of his dwelling.
After his repose, a sweet fragrance emanated from his grave, spreading so widely that it reached the Esphigmenou Monastery. This was regarded as a sign of his God-pleasing life and the purity of his soul.
