Bishop
Saint Autonom was a bishop in Italy during the persecutions of Christians under Diocletian. He moved to Bithynia, where he preached and converted people to Christianity, founding a church in the name of the Archangel Michael. After long labors in various countries, he returned to his disciples and continued his ministry.
When Diocletian arrived in Nicomedia, Autonom hid in Claudiopolis, where he continued to preach. Upon returning to Soreos, he saw that the number of believers had increased and once again strengthened them in faith. In the village of Limna, he converted many pagans to Christianity, which provoked the anger of the idolaters.
During the Divine Liturgy, the pagans attacked the church, killing Saint Autonom in the altar. His body was buried with reverence. Many years later, during the reign of Constantine the Great, his relics were miraculously found, and healings began to occur from them.
The Holy Martyr Autonom left behind many spiritual fruits, and his memory is honored in the Church. His relics remained incorrupt, which testifies to the holiness of his life and martyr's death.
