Abraham the Laborious
Venerable
Saint Abraham of Pechersk, the Diligent, was a hermit of the Kiev-Pechersk Monastery in the 14th century. His relics rest in the Near (Antoniev) caves. On an ancient icon of the Pechersk miracle workers, he is referred to as 'the igumen,' which is also confirmed in manuscript calendars. In 1396, he buried near the grave of the Theodosian prince Skirigaylo – John, who was killed by servants in Vyshgorod. Saint Abraham the Diligent rests in the cave refectory, which suggests that in the last years of his life he labored in the cave, working on the preparation of everything necessary for the cave brotherhood, for which he received the title of Diligent.
