Averky, martyr Helena
Martyrs
The Holy Apostle Alphaeus, one of the 70, was from the Galilean city of Capernaum and was the father of the apostles James the Less and Matthew.
The holy martyrs Averkios and Elena, according to tradition, were the children of the holy Apostle Alphaeus. For confessing faith in Jesus Christ, Saint Averkios was tied naked among a beehive and met a martyr's death from the stings of bees. His sister, Saint Elena, was stoned to death.
