Abdias (Abidas or Obadiah) of Persia
Martyr
Saint Abdias lived and suffered martyrdom in Persia. He preached the word of God and brought many people to Christianity. For this reason, the chief of the magi ordered his arrest, demanding that he worship the sun and fire, renouncing Christ.
With great courage, the saint steadfastly confessed his faith, enduring severe torture, beatings, and humiliations. At one point, four soldiers beat him so brutally that he lost consciousness. He was then carried into a house, where he soon surrendered his holy and blessed soul to the Lord, glorifying and thanking Him for the gift of martyrdom.
Saint Martyr Abdias suffered during the reign of the Persian king Yazdegerd I (408–420 A.D.).
