Bishop
The saint was a bishop in Persia. For the destruction of the temple of fire worshippers, he was brought to trial before the Persian king Izdegerd I, who ordered the temple to be restored. When the bishop refused, the king commanded the destruction of all Christian churches, the persecution of Christians, and their subjection to torture. The first martyr was the saint, who, after long torments, was beheaded. After thirty days, other martyrs were executed, among whom was Deacon Benjamin, who suffered particularly cruel tortures: sharp spikes were driven under his nails, and he was placed on a stake.
The holy martyrs died in 418 or 424 AD in the ancient Persian city of Susa.
