Astius of Dyrrachium
Hieromartyr
Bishop
Bishop
During the time of Emperor Trajan, Saint Astius, the bishop of the city of Dyrrachium, suffered cruel tortures for his faith. He had a dream that foretold his suffering and death for Christ, and he instructed his parishioners to hide. The saint was captured, brutally beaten with tin rods and ox hides, but he did not renounce Christ. His body was smeared with honey to increase his suffering from the bites of wasps and flies, after which he was crucified. The body of the saint was buried with honor by the Christians.
