Martyr Ariádnē of Phrygia
Martyr
The holy martyr suffered for Christ during the reign of the wicked Emperor Adrian. She was a servant of the ruler of the city of Primnisa in Phrygia, Tertius. Refusing to participate in the idolatrous celebration, Ariadne was subjected to cruel tortures: she was beaten, hanged, and scraped with iron. After a long imprisonment and starvation, she escaped from the city, but Tertius, repenting, pursued her. Praying to God for salvation, the saint entered a crevice in the rock, which then closed up, saving her from her pursuers. Those who chased her perished in a quarrel among themselves. Thus, the Lord delivered His servant from her enemies.
