Martyr Apollonius of Sardis
Martyr
Saint Apollonius was born in Sardis, the capital of Lydia.
He was arrested while traveling toward the city of Iconium and brought before the governor, Perinius. During his interrogation, he boldly declared that he was a Christian and could not swear in the name of the emperor. Instead, he insisted on invoking the name of his Creator and God.
The governor ordered him to be tortured. After enduring numerous sufferings, the saint entrusted his soul to the Lord, praying for his own salvation as well as for the salvation of all faithful Christians.
