Anthony, patriarch of Constantinople
Holy Hierarch
The saint's homeland was Asia, but his life was spent in Constantinople, where he became a bishop. From infancy, Saint Anthony showed an interest in worship, which foretold his high ministry. Having accepted monasticism, he became an abbot, continuing the feats of monastic life and giving alms to the poor. One day, a hand appeared to him, holding a bag of gold, which contributed to his generosity.
After being elected to the patriarchal throne, the saint, despite his old age, visited all the churches of his patriarchate, helping the clergy materially and giving alms to the needy. He performed many miracles and, in deep old age, departed to the Lord.
