Venerable Anthony of the Black Lake came to Black Lake in the Novgorod lands around the 16th century (40 versts from the city of Cherepovets). On an island near the Shchirsky pogost he founded the Nativity of the Theotokos Black Lake Monastery.
The venerable one reposed in 1598 in his monastery. In 1839, a wooden church in honor of the Nativity of the Theotokos was built over the grave of the saint of God.
In the Resurrection Cathedral of the city of Cherepovets, an icon of Venerable Anthony of the Black Lake has been preserved. He is depicted full-length against a background of forest and the Black Lakes: with his right hand the saint blesses, and in his left he holds a scroll.
After the monastery was completely devastated by the Swedes in 1682, it was not restored and was abolished.
Days of commemoration: January 30 (January 17, Old Style) (on his name day together with Venerable Anthony the Great), as well as in the Synaxis of the Saints of Vologda and in the Synaxis of the Saints of Novgorod.
