Antipas, Bishop of Pergamum
Hieromartyr
Bishop
Bishop
During the reign of the Emperor Domitian, there arose a great persecution against Christians. Saint Antipas, the bishop of the Pergamum Church, confessed Christian faith despite the persecutions and threats. He was captured and brought before the ruler, who demanded that he renounce his faith. However, the saint insisted that the true God can never be defeated by man.
After refusing to renounce his beliefs, Saint Antipas was killed by being wildly tortured. He prayed to God, thanking Him for the opportunity to suffer for his faith and entrusted his spirit into His hands. His relics were buried with honor in Pergamum. After a while, myrrh began to flow, healing every illness and working miracles.
