Venerable Martyr
Saint Martyr Anna Ivanovna Yezhova was born in 1885 in the Semyonovsky district of the Nizhny Novgorod province. After taking monastic vows, she lived in the village of Gnilitsy in the Avtozavodsky district, on the outskirts of Nizhny Novgorod. In late July - early August 1937, she was arrested as a participant in a church counter-revolutionary group. She did not confess her guilt and refused to testify against other arrested individuals. On August 21, 1937, nun Anna (Yezhova) was executed by shooting. She was later rehabilitated. The saint martyr was glorified by the Council of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church in 2000.
