Saint Blessed Prince Andrew Bogolyubsky (1110–1174), grandson of Grand Prince Vladimir Monomakh, was endowed with deep piety and bravery. From a young age, he showed love for the Word of God and church services, often praying in secret. Participating in military exploits, he was repeatedly close to death, but was always saved by God's help. The prince built churches and cities, strengthening faith and piety in Northern Russia.
In 1155, after the transfer of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God, he founded the city of Bogolyubovo and built a church there. In 1157, having become Grand Prince, he established Vladimir as the main city of Russia. His activities were aimed at strengthening Christianity and creating a united state.
The holy prince was killed in 1174 by a conspiracy, on the night of June 30, in his castle. His martyr's death was preceded by numerous miracles that occurred from his icon. His body was buried with honors, and he became a saint, venerated in Russia.
