Amfilohiy, Bishop of Pechersk, Vladimir-Volynskyi
Holy Hierarch
Bishop
Bishop
Saint Amfilohije served as a bishop in the Vladimir-Volynsk eparchy, established by the holy equal-to-the-apostles Prince Vladimir. He was the third archpastor on this throne, consecrated as a bishop on August 27, 1105, by the Metropolitan of Kiev Nikifor. For seventeen years of shepherding his flock, the saint diligently worked on converting pagans to Christ and eradicating pagan superstitions. After leaving the episcopate, he continued to serve God in the caves of the Kiev-Pechersk Monastery, where he passed away in 1122. The celebration of his memory on October 10 was established in 1831.
