Ηegumen / Abbot
Very little information has survived about the life and deeds of St. Amphilochius of Glushitsa. He labored in one of the monasteries of the city of Ustyug the Great, where he received the rank of priest. In 1417, leaving the monastery, he came to the river Glushitsa, wishing to perfect himself in spiritual life under the guidance of St. Dionysius. St. Amphilochius asked St. Dionysius for help, and seeing his humility and piety, he decided to remain in the Glushitsa monastery.
He strictly followed the monastic rule, patiently endured hardships, and imitated the example of St. Dionysius. After twenty years of living together, St. Dionysius appointed St. Amphilochius as his successor. Before his death, he warned him about the necessity of caring for the brotherhood and spiritual life.
After the death of St. Dionysius, St. Amphilochius continued his labors in the Glushitsa monastery for another 15 years, caring for the spiritual state of the brotherhood. He died on October 12, 1452, and was buried in the Sosnovets wilderness next to St. Dionysius. The relics of St. Amphilochius rest in the Glushitsa monastery. The feast day of St. Amphilochius is celebrated on October 11/24 and May 13/26.
