Deacon
Saint Martyr Alexios (Alexios Vasilyevich Vvedensky) was born on 19 February 1903 in the village of Prusovo in Yaroslavl Province. He came from a priestly family and studied at the Yaroslavl Theological School. In 1925, he was ordained a deacon and began serving at the Church of Saints Peter and Paul in the village of Petropavlovsk, in the Bolshesolsky District.
Shortly afterwards, he was deprived of his voting rights, while on 3 February 1930, he was arrested on charges of anti-Soviet propaganda. He was sentenced to five years of forced labour, while his property was confiscated and his family was sent into exile.
Following his release in 1934, he returned to his native village and resumed his ministry in the Church. However, he was soon arrested again and sentenced to one year of forced labour. After his release, he temporarily worked at a power plant, hoping to return to the church as soon as possible.
His third arrest took place on the 21st of June 1937, when he was charged with anti-Soviet propaganda and membership in a counter-revolutionary church organisation. He denied all the charges and never signed false confessions against his neighbours. However, the authorities sentenced him to death.
On 26 August 1937, Deacon Alexios Vvedensky was executed. He was canonised by the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church in 2000.
