Saint Alexius was born on December 28, 1871, in Moscow to a civil servant's family. After graduating from the Theological Seminary in 1897, he worked as a teacher for three years, and in 1900 he was ordained a priest. In 1937, he served in the church in the village of Novotroitsk in the Tver diocese. On November 27, 1937, he was arrested and the next day interrogated, but he refused to admit his guilt in counter-revolutionary activities. On December 5, 1937, he was sentenced to ten years of imprisonment in a labor camp. On February 9, 1938, in the Rzhev prison, he was accused of counter-revolutionary propaganda, but again refused to admit his guilt. On March 25, 1938, the NKVD troika sentenced him to execution. Priest Alexius Vinogradov was shot on March 28, 1938, and buried in a common grave.
