Presbyter
Saint Alexius Stavrovsky was born in 1834 in the Saint Petersburg province into a priest's family. He received his education at the Alexander-Nevsky Spiritual School, the Saint Petersburg Spiritual Seminary, and the Academy, which he graduated from in 1861 with the title of Candidate of Theology. He served as a military priest at the Peter and Paul Church of the military hospital in Saint Petersburg for 34 years. In 1896, he was appointed the rector of the Church of St. Spyridon Trimythous in the Admiralty and the dean of the Saint Petersburg naval churches. Over 56 years of service, he served in only two churches, both of which were significantly improved. Father Alexius had a tremendous influence on the status of military clergy, working in various public endeavors and striving to improve the situation of military priests. In 1918, after the assassination of Uritsky, he was arrested and shot, becoming a victim of repression. Before this happened, he told a young priest: "I am already old; I have little time left to live; in life, I have received all that was possible; go with God, and I will take your place." His death occurred at the end of September or in October 1918, and the place of his burial remains unknown.
