Presbyter
Hieromartyr Alexei Yakovlevich Saburov was born around 1857. He graduated from the Perm Theological Seminary. By the late 1890s he was a non-staff priest. No later than 1911, he was appointed a штатный cleric of the Resurrection Church in Perm.
In 1914-1915 he served as a priest with the army in the field. From December 1918 he ministered at the Church of the Resurrection of Christ and at the prison church in the city of Perm. He was elevated to the rank of protopresbyter.
In 1918, many priests of the city of Perm and Perm uyezd were tortured and killed by the Bolsheviks. Protopresbyter Alexei also did not escape a martyr’s death. On the night of December 16-17, according to information from his granddaughter, Father Alexei was taken from his bed, wearing only his underclothes, with a noose around his neck, and driven barefoot through the snow to the Kama River; there, tied to an iron bed, he was drowned.
He was glorified among the saints, as one of the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia, in August 2000 by the Bishops’ Council of the Russian Orthodox Church.
