Hieromartyr Alexy was born in 1869 in the village of Nagornoye in the Moscow province. In 1889 he graduated from the theological seminary and was ordained a priest to serve in the church in the village of Volochanovo. During twenty-seven years of ministry, he was awarded for his blameless service.
In 1930, the Soviet authorities confiscated his property and demanded that he pay a large sum as a tax. Since he was unable to pay it, he was sentenced to two years in a corrective labor camp. While in prison, he submitted a petition for a review of his case, which was granted, and he was released.
In 1937, at the Church of Cosmas and Damian, Archpriest Alexy marked the forty-seventh anniversary of his service. On October 24, 1937, he was arrested and imprisoned in the Rzhev prison. During interrogations, he stated that he had not engaged in anti-Soviet activities.
On November 25, the NKVD troika sentenced him to death by shooting. Archpriest Alexy Nikologorsky was executed on November 27, 1937.
