Presbyter
Saint Martyr Alexius was born on February 9, 1870, in the city of Kasimov, Ryazan province, in the family of a psalmist, Ioann Amanov. He studied at the Ryazan Theological Seminary, after which, having married Serafima Andreevna Anokhina, he was ordained a priest.
From 1914 to 1927, he served in the village of Baliki, in the Pochep district of the Bryansk region. In the early 1920s, the priest faced threats from horsemen who promised to shoot him, but the local residents defended him.
In 1927, Father Alexius moved to serve in the Moscow diocese and was appointed rector of the Nikolsky Church in the village of Maslovo. In 1930, he was transferred to the Spassky Church in the city of Zaraysk, where on November 24, 1931, he was elevated to the rank of protodeacon. In 1935, he became the rector of the Ilyinsky Church in the same city.
The priest's family experienced hardships, often going hungry, and the children collected rotten potatoes. In 1930, his household was recognized as kulak (wealthy peasant), and repressions began. Father Alexius helped people who turned to him for advice.
In the late 1930s, mass arrests of clergy began. In November 1937, Father Alexius was arrested based on false testimonies. During interrogations, he denied all accusations. On November 29, 1937, the NKVD troika sentenced him to execution.
Protodeacon Alexius Amanov was executed on December 3, 1937, at the Butovo firing range near Moscow and buried in an unknown common grave.
