Presbyter
Saint Alexander was born on August 29, 1876, in the village of Vederitsy, Dmitrov district of Moscow province. He graduated from the Dmitrov Spiritual School and the Vifansk Spiritual Seminary, and was ordained as a deacon in 1901, and as a priest in 1903. He served in churches until 1931, when he began serving in the village of Kazanskoye, and later in the Nikolsk Church in the village of Novo-Zagorye. In 1935, he was elevated to the rank of protopresbyter.
In 1937, during the second half of the thirties, the godless authorities began merciless persecutions against church ministers. On October 7, 1937, he was arrested and imprisoned in a prison in Noginsk. During the investigation, he denied his guilt, but was ultimately sentenced to execution on October 25. Protopresbyter Alexander Vozdvizhensky was shot on November 13, 1937, and buried in an anonymous mass grave at the Butovo firing range near Moscow.
