During the reign of Emperor Maximian, a great persecution of Christians began. The governor Tiberian commanded his soldiers to prepare a sacrifice to the pagan god Zeus. Among them, there was a soldier named Alexander, who refused to bow before the idols and urged his fellow soldiers to remain faithful to the true God.
Alexander was arrested and brought before the emperor, where he boldly confessed his faith in Christ. Enraged, Maximian ordered that he be subjected to torture. Yet the saint endured cruel torments with unwavering faith. He prayed fervently to God, until a guardian angel appeared to him, strengthening his spirit and healing his wounds.
The martyr was taken to various cities, where he continued to suffer for Christ. In one of them, by the grace of God, he healed those who had tortured him, leading many of them to believe in Christ. His mother, Saint Pimenia, having learned of his sufferings, followed him and encouraged him throughout his holy struggle.
In the end, Saint Alexander continued to pray and glorify God until his final breath. He joyfully accepted a martyr’s death, leaving behind a radiant example of steadfast faith and devotion to Christ.
