Presbyter
Saint Alexander was born in 1878 in the village of Makkoveevo, in the area of Kasimov of the Ryazan province. He first served as a chanter, until he was ordained deacon, and in 1932 a priest at the Church of Saint Paraskeva in the village of Sheyanki. He became the spiritual father of Blessed Matrona, who, despite her sufferings, was endowed with the gifts of foreseeing and healing.
In 1934, he was transferred to the Trinity Church in the village of Gus-Zhelezny. The following year, in 1935, he was arrested by the NKVD for glorifying Blessed Matrona and for developing an anti-Soviet propaganda. On August 2, 1935, he was sentenced to five years in a labor camp.
After his release in 1940, he returned to his duty, though his health had already been in bad condition. On April 27, 1941, he peacefully passed away, looking outside the window and sighing. He was buried near the altar of the Church of the Protection of Theotokos (Pokrov) in his native village of Makkoveevo.
The relics of Saint Alexander were uncovered on August 21, 2001. Today they are kept in the Church of the Protection of Theotokos in the village of Syntul.
