Presbyter
Saint Alexander was born on September 23, 1889, in the village of Russkaya Tsilna, Simbirsk province. In 1912, he graduated from the Simbirsk Theological School, while in 1914 he was ordained a priest. He served in several parishes, including the church in the village of Aleikino and the church of the Archangel Michael in the village of Komarovka.
In 1929, during the campaign of the government to close all churches, the saint became a target of persecution, being unable to pay the heavy church taxes. On January 13, 1930, he celebrated the All-Night Vigil and delivered a speech that the authorities interpreted as anti-Soviet. In it, he urged his people to pray fervently for the protection of their church and to remain steadfast in their faith.
On January 15, all local residents gathered to express their opposition to the removal of the church bells. The next day, around five hundred people gathered to defend their rights in religion. For several days the faithful kept praying and holding vigils, until the authorities did not dare to invade the churches.
In February 1930, upon his return from Simbirsk, Saint Alexander was arrested and charged with counter-revolutionary propaganta. On April 15, 1930, he was condemned to death by shooting, while on April 28, 1930, he was executed. His body was buried outside the city of Ulyanovsk.
