Saint Alexander was born on July 29, 1891, in the village of Rykova Sloboda, Ryazan district of Ryazan province. In 1916, he entered the Theological Seminary but did not complete it due to the revolution. He served as a psalmist, and in 1921 he was ordained as a deacon, and later as a priest in the church in the village of Pashnevo, Orechovo-Zuevo district.
During the persecutions of 1937, the authorities arrested Father Alexander. He was accused of anti-Soviet agitation but denied all charges. On November 21, the NKVD troika sentenced him to execution. The priest was shot on November 25, 1937, and buried in an unmarked grave at the Butovo firing range near Moscow.
