Alexander Arapov of Belogorsk, novice
Venerable Martyr
Saint Alexander Vasilyevich Arapov was born in 1893 in the Ufa province into a peasant family. In 1907, he became a novice at the Belogorsky St. Nicholas Monastery of the Perm Diocese. In 1918, together with the brethren of the monastery, he was shot by the Bolsheviks for refusing to participate in the celebration of the October Revolution and to join the Red Army. On July 2, 1998, he was canonized as a locally venerated saint of the Perm Diocese. By the decision of the Archpastoral Council of the Russian Orthodox Church in 2000, he was glorified among the ranks of all-Russian saints.
