Saint Achillius, Bishop of Larissa, lived in the 4th century during the reign of the Equal-to-the-Apostles Constantine the Great. Renowned for his holiness of life and learning, he was appointed bishop of the city of Larissa in Thessaly. Participating in the First Ecumenical Council, he boldly rebuked the heretic Arius. In his city, he diligently promoted Christianity, destroying idol temples and building churches. He had the gift of healing diseases, especially demonic possession, and performed many miracles. He peacefully departed around the year 330. His relics have been in Bulgaria since 978, in the city of Prespa (now the village of Achili, named in honor of the revered saint).
