Saint Akakios, Bishop of Melitēnḗ
Holy Hierarch
Bishop
Bishop
Akaiky zealously preached Christianity among the pagans and was captured during the persecution of Emperor Decius. Before the proconsul Marcian, he confessed Christ, spoke about the true God, and reproached the proconsul for idolatry. The proconsul ordered the confessor to be tortured and thrown into prison, informing the emperor about what had happened, who commanded that the bishop be released. After leaving prison, the saint peacefully reposed after some time.
The relics of the saint were discovered in 257 AD, in honor of which a feast was also established.
