Agapetus I, Pope of Rome (536)
Holy Hierarch

Bishop
Saint Agapitus, Pope of Rome, was sent to Constantinople in order to negotiate peace with the Emperor Justinian. Along the way, he healed a man who was mute, while, upon arriving in Constantinople, he healed a blind man by laying his hand upon his eyes.
During his stay in the city, at the command of the emperor, there took place a local council. At this council, Patriarch Anthimus, who had been unlawfully elevated to the throne, was deposed, and Presbyter Mina—renowned for his holy life—was appointed in his place. The heresy of Monophysitism was also condemned.
Not long after these events, in 536, one year after his enthronement, Pope Agapitus died in Constantinople. His holy relic was buried in the Church of the Holy Apostles.
