Saint Agatho, Pope of Rome, was born into a wealthy Christian family. Following the death of his parents, he distributed his inheritance among the poor and embraced the monastic life. He lived a virtuous and God-fearing life.

In 679, he was appointed head of the Church of Rome, serving on the papal throne until his death in 682.
