Saint Agathon, Pope of Rome, came from a wealthy Christian family. After the death of his parents, he distributed his inheritance to the poor and accepted monasticism. His virtuous life did not go unnoticed, and in 679 he was appointed head of the Roman Church, remaining on the throne until his death in 682.
