Saint Athanasius the Confessor of Constantinople
Venerable
Saint Athanasius was born in Constantinople to pious parents and dreamed of a life in monasticism from a young age. He withdrew to the monastery in Nicomedia, where he received monastic tonsure. Due to his piety, he became known to the emperor. During the persecutions orchestrated by Leo the Isaurian, he was denounced for his veneration of icons, and he suffered tortures and exile, yet remained steadfast in the Orthodox faith. Saint Athanasius reposed in the year 821.
