Afanasy Navolotsky

Nothing is known about his birth and upbringing. The Venerable One came from the vicinity of Kargopol to the Vaga River and settled 3 versts from the Verkholetskaya sloboda, near the city of Shenkursk. Soon he fell gravely ill and passed away. After 40 days, the saint appeared simultaneously to 4 sick people, healed them, and commanded them to bury his body in the ground at the place where it lay. The healed not only buried the holy relics but also erected a chapel over them, which marked the beginning of the veneration of the Venerable One. From afar, people came and, taking dust from the holy relics at his grave and anointing themselves with it as a balm for every illness, were healed.
