Ηegumen / Abbot
In the monastery of St. Lazarus of Murom, around the middle of the 15th century, the igumen Athanasius labored. Unfortunately, no information about his God-pleasing life has survived. After his death, the body of St. Athanasius was placed in a special chapel, where his chains are kept – a monument to his labors. The ascetic is venerated locally in the monastery of St. Lazarus alongside this servant of God. This veneration has been ongoing for a long time: already in the second half of the 17th century, igumen Athanasius is referred to as 'St. Wonderworker.'
