The Holy Martyr Adrian was captured and put into prison. During a pagan festival, he was forced to approach the altar and offer sacrifice to the idols. However, with his courage and faith, he cast down the altar, scattered the offerings, and quenched the fire. Enraged, the ruler of the region, together with all the pagans who had taken part in the feast, began to beat him mercilessly with sticks and stones, knocking out his teeth. At last, they cast him into a fiery furnace, where his body was consumed, but his pure soul ascended to the heavens.
